Ghisalba Switch Disconnectors: The new SZM, SZD, and SZF line is now available in stock

Ghisalba S.p.A. expands its range of load break switches with three new series designed to meet the switching and protection requirements of electrical systems in industrial, marine, railway, and water treatment applications. The line includes the SZM, SZD, and SZF models, available in 3-pole and 4-pole versions, now in stock.

Why choose a Ghisalba switch disconnector All switch disconnectors in the range share high-level construction characteristics: rated insulation voltage up to 1500 V, rated impulse withstand voltage up to 12 kV, and a breaking capacity processed according to utilization categories AC-21, AC-22, and AC-23 (with DC-21/22/23 versions for the SZD and SZF series). This makes them suitable for both standard civil and industrial applications, as well as more severe environments such as the marine sector, wastewater treatment, and railway rolling stock.

SZM Series: Compact modular switches (16 A – 200 A) The SZM series (available in SZM1, SZM2, SZM3 sizes) is designed for 35 mm DIN rail installation with screw mounting, and is available for rated currents from 16 A to 200 A. Main technical features:

• Rated insulation voltage (Ui): 1500 V

• Rated impulse withstand voltage (Uimp): 4 kV (16-40 A) / 8 kV (63-200 A)

• Mechanical endurance: 1,000 operating cycles; electrical endurance: 1,500 operating cycles

Thanks to their compact dimensions, SZM switches are the ideal option when space inside the electrical panel is limited without compromising reliable performance.

SZD Series: Heavy-duty switches (200 A – 800 A) The SZD series (SZ2D, SZ3D, SZ4D models) is designed for high-current applications, featuring visible contacts and fast-make/fast-break operation, suitable for heavy-duty use up to 800 A. Main technical features:

• Thermal rated current (Ith): from 200 A to 800 A

• Rated impulse withstand voltage (Uimp): 12 kV

• Making capacity (AC-23A) at 400 V: from 1,600 A to 5,040 A

• Short-time withstand current (0.25 sec): from 16 kA to 53 kA

• Rated operational power (AC-23A) at 400 V: from 105 kW to 330 kW

• Mechanical endurance: from 8,000 to 10,000 operating cycles

• Manageable cable cross-section: from 95 mm² to 2×240 mm²

• Standard 200 mm control shaft included in every package

This series is the best choice for heavy industrial applications where high operational currents and top performance under short-circuit conditions are required.

SZF Series: Fuse-protected switches (63 A – 630 A) The SZF series (SZ1F, SZ2F, SZ3F, SZ4F, SZ5F models) integrates a fuse holder to ensure overcurrent and short-circuit protection directly within the switch disconnector, simplifying electrical panel design. Main technical features:

• Thermal rated current (Ith): from 63 A to 630 A

• Rated impulse withstand voltage (Uimp): 8 kV (63-80 A) / 12 kV (100-630 A)

• Rated making capacity at 420 V: from 630 A to 6,300 A

• Rated operational power (AC-23A) at 400 V: from 33 kW to 330 kW

• RMS value: 50 kA

• Mechanical endurance: from 7,000 to 10,000 operating cycles

• Net weight: from 1 kg to 13 kg

The SZF series is particularly recommended when you want to combine the switching function and fuse protection into a single device.
